Tam High Mock Trial is a student organization at Tamalpais High School in Mill Valley, California that competes at mock trial tournaments across the country. Students on the 30-member team take on roles as attorneys, witnesses, and pre-trial lawyers – preparing speeches and examinations to argue a case prepared by the Constitutional Rights Foundation. Students use rules of evidence based on the Federal Rules of Evidence and present the case before experienced judges and attorneys.
The team is noted as the most successful program in Tamalpais High School’s history. In 2017, the team won the Marin County Mock Trial Championship for the 22nd year in a row. In addition, they won the California State Championships in 2005 and 2009 and were the United States National Champions in 2005.
They have continued to place in the top 8 teams in California almost every year and first in many regional tournaments. (For a full listing of the teams accomplishments see Awards.)
Tam High Mock Trial has served as a venue for students to bond and gain skills in leadership, public speaking, theater, communication and the law. Some of Tam High’s most accomplished students were a part of the team (see Notable Alumni) and it is still run fully on donations.
